A 23-year-old man in Salzburg, Austria, has been arrested and charged with importing drugs purchased from a darkweb vendor based in Spain. According to a press release from the Salzburg State Police Department, the man was apprehended after customs officers in Vienna intercepted two packages from Spain containing marijuana.
One package, intercepted at the end of July 2021, contained 50 grams of marijuana and was addressed to the man’s residence. Another package, containing 28 grams of cannabis and addressed to the same individual, was also intercepted. Following this discovery, a search warrant was obtained by the Salzburg public prosecutor.
On October 11, the Hallein police executed the search warrant at the man’s residence, leading to the seizure of drugs, stun guns, and expandable batons. Among the items seized was a package resembling those intercepted at the airport, containing eight grams of cannabis. During police questioning, the 23-year-old admitted to ordering cannabis from the Spain-based vendor on ten occasions.
The Salzburg public prosecutor has since charged the man with possession of drugs and weapons.
